Biomass Energy
Definition: Biomass energy is energy taken from plants or plant-derived materials.
Biomass can be converted (changed) into bio-fuels for transportation, bio-power for heat and electricity, and bio-products for making things such as plastics or coal related materials

- "Biomass" refers to raw organic material used to generate a number of energy
resources, including heat, liquid or gaseous fuels, and electricity
- Can be used to cook or to produce hot water
- It could also be used to create energy for general distribution
- The oldest source of renewable energy, which has been used since people discovered fire
- Recently studies have showed that biomass energy supplied more energy then solar and wind combined- When choosing a substance for fueling pick biomass over coal
- Biomass can be made of industrial residues, animal residues, municipal solid waste, sewage, agricultural crops and residue
- This could lead to this source being above than coal

The steps that follow to create the biomass energy:
- biomass material like branches from trees, wood that is being wasted, food dump, or manure that comes from other sources
- a truck comes and takes these substances and leaves them at a plant for biomass
- then you will have the biomass plant take them to large furnaces that burn it
- this heat will burn it in the water and will create your energy so you will be able to use it

This image shows how tree braches, thrown away food, and manure get transformed into electricity.
Geographical Areas
People who want to use biomass as there alternative solution have a very good chance of conducting it. This is because anywhere that there may be waste or animal pollution, you can take that and form it into energy that is going to be usable. Basically, just like geothermal you can be anywhere in the world and you can take the advantage of this source. I believe that some areas will not have waste but most areas do. When you plan on using this please take the idea of you environment. Also, biomass is mostly located in the northeast part of the United States, but is scattered all around the country.

Cost of Biomass Energy
- LCOE cost of biomass-fired power plants range from 6 to 29 cents per kWh based on capital costs and maybe on their feedstock
- systems developed are supposed to cost lower than what you think
- the fuel costs depend on what you are using
- not a lot in money but you do need to check out your environment before spending

Advantages and Disadvantages:
Advantages
- A fuel source that could be better than that of collecting coal
- Can release carbon dioxide but captures it for growth so no harm can be done to the society
- Biomass Energy is good for the environment and also is very good for business, since it has a great tax credit for the U.S government
- This can potentially never run out, since it is created from life and life is a cycle then that leads to the statement of Biomass being renewable plus abundant
- Sometimes carbon dioxide can be very bad for human body and other species bodies, but this has no emission of it
Disadvantages
- First of all, this source is very expensive because caring for life is not cheap
- to work properly the use of biomass has to be mixed with gasoline and that can harm the energy that you will be using to drop that bill of yours
- Biomass is most likely to be produced in areas away from home. This is because biomass produces gas substances like methane which can get into the atmosphere and can hurt us humans or other life.
- This will take a lot fuel because the main source of it comes from trees
