Think again if you thought wind turbines were only on land. In this picture, you see that wind turbines can be aligned across parts of the ocean. of course this takes time and is not the most common placement of the turbines.
Wind Power
Definition: power that is obtained using the energy of wind
- Renewable energy that is used in urban areas and offshore
- Mounted on the top of a tower so that more energy can be obtained due to there being more wind the higher up you go
- The blades that are on the wind turbine capture the wind to form wind energy and rotate like a rotor
- The main cause of the working of this type of energy is because of the sun
- The sun gives light and wind to the Earth and at the low pressure winds it can be changed into high pressure wind
- This type of energy started out with the use of wind mills and now into wind turbines
- There are three major types of wind power
= utility scale wind: electricity used to power grids and other electrical companies
= distributed/small wind: this can be used to power homes, farms, or even small businesses
= offshore wind: turbines located at bodies of water to power ships or boats when in need
- Another type of energy just like solar power energy because it is caused by the heat of the sun

You may think that you don't affect the Earth, but you do. As you learn, notice how every single family makes a huge difference. The more people that use energy like Wind power, will better our Earth's cleanliness.
Cost of Wind Power
- wind turbines in 2012 ranged from $1.3 million to $2.2 million for utility scale per MW of nameplate capacity
- most of these today are 2 MW and cost between $3-4 million for the installment
- now wind turbines under 100 kilowatts tend to be roughly $3,000-$8,000 per kilowatt of capacity
- a 10 kilowatt machine used to power a large home may have an installed cost of $50,000-$80,000 (or more) depending on the height of the tower, the type of it, and perhaps the installation

Geographical Areas
Wind power could mean that where you live is great for this that is not always the answer. Places where this is wind power is the best is in areas of mountain tops, hurricane or tornado alleys, or offshore water areas. These tend to be areas where there is high wind speeds which move at intense speeds. Locations of high elevations tend to be where these systems are built and if you plan on taking the advantage of using wind power, then I suggest to take it high in height. Or if you live near beaches you can place one there because it helps the air simulate and capture energy faster.

Advantages and Disadvantages:
Advantages
- Once the wind turbine is built it does not release harmful pollutants into the air
- More remote areas that are not connected to a large electricity supply can produce an energy supply of their own
- The wind turbines come in multiple sizes to suit many people’s needs; from small business owners to farmers
- Wind turbines are tall and not space consuming, making more land available to use. Especially in farming areas, where this extra space can be used to plant crops or otherwise
Disadvantages
- The strength of the wind blowing is not always consistent, so the wind turbines may not produce the same amount of energy all the time
- Many people may consider the wind turbines to be ugly or unsightly which will detour them from using this type of renewable energy
- Wind turbines tend to be noisy which would cause many people to avoid living in areas with them.
- Birds can possibly fly into the turbine and take flight
